This past Thursday turned out to be the third rainy day of the week. There were several downpours throughout the day with short periods of calm. During one of those quiet moments I stood by the back door to smell the fresh air. A very familiar scent wafted lightly past my nose. A sweet creamy almond vanilla floral with mild herbal notes. It took awhile for me to pinpoint what it was. Heliotrope! I don't know where it came from but it was being carried through the air. I know my neighbors don't have any and I hadn't bought any this year. Then the rain came again. It was nice while it lasted.
