Plant Identification

I have been paying close attention lately to the wild flowers growing in a field behind my house. Normally the area is mowed so I really hadn't noticed them before but since I'm so interested now in plants that are native to my area I decided to go out and take a closer look. Boy was I missing out on some beauties. I have no idea what they are or even if they are natives. While I'm researching I thought I'd post some pictures I took and see if anyone could tell me what they are.

Inspiration comes in many forms and I want to give a great big thank you to perfumer Roxana Villa of Illuminated Perfume. I had been reading Roxana's blog and commented on one of her posts. Just out of a casual exchange she has inspired me to learn more about native plants where I live. All I can say is that what I've learned so far is FASCINATING and EXCITING!

A Coincidence?

A few weeks ago as I was shopping for herbs to plant in my mini garden (lol), I came across Bee Balm. I had never heard of it before and decided to purchase one plant. This was all before my exchange with Roxana. Days later after reading Roxana's response to my comment, I went to the library to check out books on native plants of Michigan and lo and behold, Bee Balm is a native. How cool is that? Hmmm...just a coincidence?
