Why Wait?

I have been in a funk for far too long. There are so many things I need to do but come up with an excuse not to do them because I "just don't feel like it." It really is ridiculous. Really. I have several unfinished projects waiting for my attention. Why wait to make a New Year's resolution? I don't keep them anyway. It has to be done now. This is my pledge and you all are witnesses (did I say that out loud?). Besides, it's time I got up off my rear anyway.

Now, who's seen that to-do list?

Winter Solstice Contest

This giveaway is now closed
This is a quick giveaway.  I planned on making it bigger but you know this time of year is very busy for indie artists and crafters.  And I didn't plan far enough ahead, so...  I have two top notch items to give to one lucky winner.  Continue reading for all the details!

The winter solstice occurs at the instant when the Sun's position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer. Depending on the shift of the calendar, the event of the winter solstice occurs some time between December 20 and December 23 each year in the northern hemisphere, and between June 20 and June 23 in the southern hemisphere, during either the shortest day or the longest night of the year (answers.com)

In the Northern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice occurs on December 21, 2008 at 7:04 AM EST.

The winner of this contest will receive Winter Solstice Perfume Spray by Faerie Made (faeriemadesoaps.etsy.com) and Winter Nights Fine Handcrafted Soap by Arcadia Aromatics (SoapStore.etsy.com).

Now, for the rules.

How do you enter?
You can enter up to three times.  One comment about a Faerie Made product, one comment about an Arcadia Aromatics product and one random comment, because those are always fun to read lol. That's it!  This contest is open to everyone!

On December 21, 2008 at 7:04 AM EST I will close this contest and randomly select a winner for this awesome set.

Both crafters are members of Etsy's Soaper Stars street team (as am I).  And I just want to take a moment and brag on my team members. They are the most awesome women and men I've had the pleasure of interacting with. I've used products from each contributor and there is no doubt I'd used their products again.

{whispering} Now, just between you and me, there are several members of this team who are responsible for me picking up a stick blender to soap with instead of using it for cooking. They are the reason I look in my cabinets and wonder, not what I'm going to cook for dinner but rather what would go well in soap. They are the reason NO ONE is allowed to touch my bottles of olive oil. But they don't know that so don't tell them I told you. ;-).

I am pleased to introduce you to Terri Collins of Callidora, a woman owned and operated handcraft business, specializing in women's clothing, handbags and accessories. Day 11 - Aku's Ear Ornaments

This Giveaway is now closed. Thank you to all who participated. You may continue to leave comments for the artist, however they will not be entered into the draw. Still, why not show some love. ;-)

From Aku's Etsy bio:
I’m a Taurean…all about the earth…the sun…appreciating natural colors and textures. Most of my creations incorporate warm metals like copper and brass, clay, horn, wood, and glass beads…and a very deliberate love for what I do. There is a very simple “mother earth” quality to my work.

I came to know of Aku, owner of Aku's Ear Ornaments through Etsy's Artists of Color street team. Through my interactions with Aku I've found her to be a very down to earth, generous individual. I am fortunate enough to own a pair of Aku's earrings, and I adore them. When you visit Aku's Etsy shop kezzmit.etsy.com, you will see many ear ornaments in lovely warm earthy tones. The colors, shapes and textures are so appealing. They are lightweight and very feminine...very sexy! Don't believe me? Check'em out for yourself. ;-)

I'm Tisa of Tisa's Creations. I create everything my self, but I can honestly say, I would not be were I am today with out the my silent business partner, my daughter, my son and my husband. My husband is the most patient person I know. He is there to help out when ever possible - as long as it has nothing to do with creating anything. My silent partner wasn't so silent this holiday season when she came to visit and helped me fill so many orders (it was fun!) My daughter helps me with packaging, my son is the best sells person ever. When I need a break from at my craft shows they are both there to help out as needed. I couldn't ask for a better supportive family.

What has Tisa been up to: This holiday season has been very sucesssful for Tisa's Creations. I've participated in serveral craft shows and have made so many more contacts. I've introduced a few new stationery sets and have a few more items in the works.

Tisa's Creations in 2009: My goal for next year, to take graphic designer classes. I would like to create scrapbook paper designed by me - and use that to create custom cards for my shop. I would also like to expand my wedding, and customer invitation line. Also on my list is to hire an seasonal assistant to help out. (Wow, me an assistant! yeah!)

I'm having a HUGE SALE in my etsy shop...stop by my shop, stop on in...
Feel free to contact me:

According to Misha Ashton's bio, she is a photographer, graphic designer and craft maker located in Portland, Oregon USA.

Says Misha, "I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember and even with the whole digital craze, I am still addicted to film. Most of all slide film cross processed. None of my work is photoshopped, everything is done either in the camera or in the developing process.  I mount my photography on woodblocks and coat them for protection and texture. If you prefer an image to be framed, you can purchase the image as a print and frame it anyway you like!!

I have also started using my extra prints to make jewelry and belt buckles. I love the world of crafts and photography. I goals are to photograph the world as I see it, to show people the world through a different eye."

Day 4 - A[n]Teris

This Giveaway is now closed. Thank you to all who participated. You may continue to leave comments for the artist, however they will not be entered into the draw. Still, why not show some love. ;-)

Tell us a little about yourself
I think a little is all there is to tell about myself. I've been writing crazy fiction & poetry since I was about 14 years old, so I guess you can tell that I've been slightly bent since about then. I'm glad to say that the creative spark has carried over to my two kids!

How long have you been crafting and what made you decide to sell?
Like I said, I've been writing since I was 14... thank goodness I've gotten out of my "emo" phase. What made me decide to sell? Way back then, I read a book and decided "Hey! I can do this!" Hence the insanity was born.

How do you promote your work and where can we find it?
You can find me at anteris.etsy.com. I try to self-promote as much as possible and I also rely on the kindness of the strange -- I mean strangers -- to help me out. If you find one of my business cards in a random spot in your neighborhood, I've done my job well.

What inspires you to create?
Everything. The craziest things inspire me. For example, for The Defender's Burden (which I started when I was 16), the whole inspiration for the interesting physical characteristics was a 64 color crayon box. No, I'm serious.

How do you organize your time?
Um... while I know what the word is and I can use it in a sentance, the actual usage of the term escapes me.

What is your favorite item that you create?
My writing always has top billing, but I have to say right behind that are the rosaries I make for my other shop,liviasjewelry.etsy.com. Did you like how I did that?

Can you give us some background on the piece that is offered in this giveaway?
The Defender's Burden has been about 25 years or so in the making. It's an epic fantasy fiction in three parts, published serialized, like the classics back in the day.

What are your business plans going into 2009?
To become as successful as life will let me.

Do you have a blog/facebook/myspace/twitter so that others can keep in touch with you?
I actually have all four. I'll start you off with my blog: liviastreasures.blogspot.com

Thank you Tina for participating in this giveaway.  Soooo...what will the winner receive?  Well, that would be the first 4 chapters of The Defenders Burden from A[n]Teris along with a Blossoming Tree creamy body butter made using jojoba oil infused with a lovely scented amber resin.

The rules are simple:

1)To enter visit the featured artist's website or other online shop and look around. Come back here and comment on an item you'd like to have.

2)Winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Dec 17. Start Dec 7 at 12:01 AM and ends Dec 10 at 11:59 PM.

3)One entry per person. Duplicates will be discarded.

4)International guests are welcome to enter, however I reserve the right to exchange any item that is restricted by or may cause a delay in customs.

5)You must leave a way for me to contact you be it an email address, blog, twitter id, website or online shop (Etsy, DaWanda, Artfire, Silkfair, etc). The winner will have 48 hrs to respond otherwise an alternate will be selected.

Day 3 - Handcrafted By Ging

This Giveaway is now closed. Thank you to all who participated. You may continue to leave comments for the artist, however they will not be entered into the draw. Still, why not show some love. ;-)

Tell us a little about yourself
I am a stay at home mom of seven. We have two sets of twins 1 year and 5 years old, 12 and 17 year old boys and a 15 year old girl. I live in southern California with my husband and six of the kids. I love to crochet, quilt, draw, and write. I don't know sometimes where I find the time, life is so hectic.

How long have you been crafting and what made you decide to sell?
I have tried unsuccessfully in the past to sell my crochet work. Since I have been home I do just about anything to bring in a little extra money, which brought me full circle to my crochet.

How do you promote your work and where can we find it?
I am only on Etsy. My store is byging.etsy.com, as in Handcrafted By Ginger!

What inspires you to create?
Anything and everything. I consider myself a "collector of words". Poetry being my first passion I tend to pay a lot of attention to what people say and how they say it. In my quilting inspiration often comes from eyeing other quilts or pretty fabrics. I try to stay out of the fabric shops--dangerous! My crochet projects are usually driven by the birth of a baby or the coming of a holiday. Crocheting all the time to post to my shop is new to me.

How do you organize your time?
Oh my! I get up well before dawn with my husband who leaves for work at 4:45am. I don't go to bed most nights until well after 10 or 11. The rest of the day seems like a mad rush to finish everything. Thank God my husband is a forgiving man for those days I get immersed in my craft and neglect to prepare his dinner.

What is your favorite item that you create?
Right now my favorite is a caplet I made from a free pattern I found online. But that is subject to change. I'm kind of flighty like that.

What are your business plans going into 2009?
Honestly, I have none. I am being led by where God wants me to be and His will for my life. My greatest joy is fulfilling His purpose in my life. Right now it is to take care of my family, give, and help. I am at a creative peak, and I suppose that is part of it too. So I'm taking things day by day, I'm practicing my art and I'm sharing my gift. I taught crochet classes this year and I am hoping that is part of my life next year. It gives me immeasurable joy to see someone come to me with no knowledge and a touch of desire leave me creating!

Do you have a blog/facebook/myspace/twitter so that others can keep in touch with you?
No

Thank you Ginger for doing this feature and for your participation in the giveaway!  Today's prize is for a 100% cotton crocheted Kitchen Set (in a lovely blue I might add) paired with an Organic Coffee Kitchen Soap.
The rules are simple:

1)To enter visit the featured artist's website or other online shop and look around. Come back here and comment on an item you'd like to have.
